How to Give Your Makeup Kit A New Year’s Upgrade For Less Than $10
With the start of the New Year and the mindset of fresh starts ever present, I find myself organizing everything in my home from my bedroom closet to the the kids’ toys to our office paperwork and kitchen cupboards. So the present state of my home is a mess, but very soon, it will all be neat, tidy and organized. 🙂
Not to be forgotten is my cosmetics stash which has inevitably outgrown my organizing bins and trays thanks to the bevy of beauty boxes I’ve discovered this year. In doing so, I’ve realized that I’ve been using makeup past its prime simply because I don’t diligetly keep track and easily forget. A recent PopSugar.com article has a helpful little expiration chart which I used as a guide for what to toss and keep.
These are the expiration dates that stuck out to me:
- mascara, liquid or gel eyeliner – three months
- lipstick, lip liner, and oil-free foundation – 12 months
- cream shadows, blushes and concealers – 12 – 18 months
- brushes – 1-5 years (dependent on quality and how often they are washed)*
- makeup sponges – one month, at most*

If you’re like me and will be pitching a good portion of your beauty tools and makeup essentials, have no fear about re-stocking. I discovered a gem of an online beauty product site, ShopMissA, to help you rebuild your makeup kit on a budget because EVERTHING SELLS FOR $1.00.
This is not a typo. I know. I didn’t believe it at first either, but I received my very first order within a week and everything was carefully packaged and as it appeared online. I’m just a little upset I hadn’t discovered ShopMissA sooner.
Here are the items on my wishlist to help re-fresh my beauty kit for less than $10 including products from one of my favorite brands, e.l.f.

In addition to makeup and beauty tools, ShopMissA sells various accessories (all for $1) including cute canvas makeup bags and totes and really well-made bows and ribbons.
Every Friday they release their re-stocked items, so if you find some treasures that currently are out of stock, make sure to check back on Fridays.
Have you shopped from ShopMissA before? If you haven’t, what beauty products will you be trying on your first order?
XO,
Emily
