For the Makeup Minimalist: Beauty Finds to Create That Summer Glow
“Summertime and the livin’ is easy.”
That’s the motto I try to live by these summer months and it also holds true for my beauty and hair care routine. To help take me from the carpool to poolside to dinner al fresco, I have a handful of tried and true products that are low maintenance, protect my skin and help give me a summer “glow” from morning to night.
Peter Thomas Roth – Max Mineral Naked Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 45
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Radiance
Amika un.done Volume and Matte Texture Spray
Atelier Cologne Clementine California
HAIR
OUAI Wave Spray – I tend to skip the hair drying and styling tools in the summer and a few spritzes of this wave spray on air dried hair, either out of the shower or from the pool, help define my natural waves with little effort or time. Bonus points for smelling like a day at the beach.
Amika un.done Volume and Matte Texture Spray – This texturizing spray smells good enough to use as a perfume, I kid you not. The finish is lightweight so there’s no sticky buildup. I’ll typically use it in the morning and then at night for a quick touch-up to help define tousled, beachy waves.
LIPS
eos organic lip balm in sweet mint – I love that I can always find the round eos pot, even at the bottom of my bag. After a day in the heat and sun, a dose of this lip balm, infused with vitamin E, shea butter and jojoba oil, is hydrating and healing.
SKINCARE
Peter Thomas Roth – Max Mineral Naked Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 45 – For the last couple months, I’ve used this tinted SPF as a base in the morning before I put on anything else. It has a very lightweight formula and has a little tint so I often skip BB cream or foundation in the summer. The “light-scattering” formula leaves the skin looking dewy and fresh.
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Radiance – Following PTR’s Max Mineral SPF, I use a wet makeup sponge applicator to apply a bit of this tinted primer to moisturize, help fill in pores and fine lines, and add a bronzey glow to the skin.
Milk Makeup Bronzer Stick – Adds a final sunkissed glow to eye lids, cheek bones and temples. I find the formula light and it absorbs into the skin so you don’t have to worry about smudging throughout the day.
SCENT
Atelier Cologne Clementine California – Sunny and citrusy with notes of basilica, vetiver and sandalwood. The mini sized perfume tube is convenient for travel and to tote around in your summer bag for daytime touchups.
This handful of beauty finds (most available at Sephora and Target) are my favorite tools to help keep my summer beauty routine low-maintenance. What are your favorite beauty and hair care products for the summer?
XOXO,
Emily

The Oui spray sounds interesting. I HATE using styling tools now that I have a LO, especially in the summer. Will have to check it out.
I hear you (who has time for that?!) A little Ouai spray (a little goes a long way) and hair twisting and you’re good to go!
Love these products, but what’s your favorite dry shampoo?
Thanks for reading! My “splurge” dry shampoo is R & Co (lightweight and smells so good!). My drugstore go-to is Batiste.
