Celebrate the Silly: A Review of Animal Act + A Giveaway
About a year ago, I highlighted one of my family’s favorite new board games here on the blog called Silly Street, created by two uber creative and fun-loving moms who also happen to be my cousins. (Hmm, humble brag. Sorry not sorry.)
Truly, this is a brag-worthy story. What started as a kickstarter campaign last year has evolved into a brand of award-winning games which now includes Animal Act as well as a collection of puzzles, available nationwide from retailers like Target and Amazon.
If you’re a friend of ours with young kids, you’ve undoubtedly received a Silly Street game for your child’s birthday in the last year. Just when we thought we needed to find another fabulously fun and unique gift to give everyone for their birthdays this year, my cousins’ latest game, Animal Act, hit shelves, making our go-to birthday gift an easy choice for another year.
Reminiscent of Silly Street, Animal Act is beautifully constructed and illustrated with colorful characters. The goal of the game is to get your fellow players to guess your card before the time runs out. Using performance styles, you’ll be acting, singing and laughing your way through the game. Besides seeing your kids’ creativity run wild, Animal Act helps kids to build bravery and confidence (amazing!). I always admire a well-crafted game that’s pure fun, but that I know is based on character-building skills. My kids not only love playing these games with us, but with their grandparents, aunts and uncles.
The age range recommends 4+, but younger kids can get in on the fun, too. Sloane loves “organizing” the cards and proudly announces the animal or object on the card that she recognizes.
Board games like Animal Act and Silly Street have become my secret weapon of choice when my kids get that crazed look in their eye at the end of the day (it comes on like clockwork around 5:00 every day). Especially during the time of year when we’re inside more than outside, I’ve found that channeling their wild energy through the activity of Animal Act or Silly Street is the best way to redirect their buzz. And I can take a moment and just be silly and laugh with my kids- the perfect medicine to the every day (unimportant) feelings of stress as a mom of two young humans.
