Autumn Fashion Prep: Summer Basics To Transition for Fall

This time of year, the “b” phrase seems to loom everywhere – back to school! Duh duh DUHHHHHH….
While fall is one of my favorite times of year, I hate to wish away August and those final unscheduled summertime days we have to enjoy before another school season of routine and calendars kicks off.

In the same breath, we’re anxiously awaiting the arrival of Baby Boy in the coming weeks. While I “nest” at home and prep for baby, I’ve been taking advantage of some of the end-of-season and fall sales to add key transitional pieces to our closets. Things that we can wear now with shorts and sandals and can layer with jeans and boots in the crisp fall months ahead.
For me, these pieces include jumpsuits (should be postpartum friendly, too!), drapey layers like long sweaters and caftans (like this boho one from Gap) and a new backpack (like this one from my friends at Urban Expressions. P.S. Use THESTYLEDJ25 to save 25% off anything from UE).

For the kids’ closets, I picked up some soft knits from Gymboree that are classic with a little modern touch that we can mix and match with the rest of their closet. Through a recent Back To School campaign with Gymboree, I learned about their total style refresh to offer clothes both mom and kids love. I have to admit I’m really impressed with the quality of the clothes we ordered. From the softness of the fabric, the fit, the detailing, the modern sense of style, and most importantly, what the shirts are missing – tags! This is a little detail, but a huge deal. What is it with kids and their reaction to clothing tags?!

When it comes to preparing for fall, I’m all about wearing some of our summer favorites with some new classic layering pieces that we can easily wear with boots and jeans in place of shorts and sandals. What are your favorite wardrobe staples to take you from summer to fall?
XOXO,
Emily
Note: I recently received some complimentary clothing from Gymboree for a social Back to School campaign, but I was not compensated or tasked with mentioning the clothing or our experience in this blog post. I was just so impressed with our finds that I had to share!
