A DIY North Shore Chicago Pool House – Part 2

Last summer, Andrew and I updated the pool area (originally built in the 1980s) to reflect a more modern and coastal energy as well as to create an outdoor space we could enjoy in the summer. While we contracted with a company to update the pool deck and surrounding area, we handled the construction and decoration of a pool house to complete the space. 2022 Pool House Updates
This summer, we expanded the outdoor living space on both sides of the pool house with wooden pergolas. Faux grass, white curtains and hanging ferns completed the “retreat” feels. The pergolas also easily added a shady reprieve from the sun. (I shared more about the value of DIY pergolas in a recent Redfin Blog article “Keep Cool this Summer with these DIY Backyard Shade Ideas“).

In addition to the pergolas, we updated the inside of the pool house with a mini bar complete with a small sink and a fridge.

It was the biggest DIY project we’ve taken on, but it was worth the time, energy and effort given the outdoor living space we can enjoy now. If you have the space and are thinking about a DIY home kit or adding pergolas to your yard, feel free to message me! I’m always happy to share more about our experience.
XOXO,
Emily
