5 Free Activities for Kids at Home With A Focus on Food and Cooking

March 18, 2020

By Emily Schiller, R.D.N.

We’ve been home as a family for almost one week. Five days, to be exact. Five days of “social distancing,” uncertainties, and a rollercoaster of emotions as we head into uncharted territory as a family, country and global citizens. In moments like these, there’s no greater solace than time spent in the kitchen, and there’s no time like today to try those new flagged recipes, whip up your favorite family fare or bake with the kids.

Feed your bellies, mind and soul with good food with these fun, educational and free activities for you and your kids to enjoy during our collective time at home.

5 Activities for Kids at Home With A Focus on Food and Cooking

“Soup’s On” Cooking Kit from Kidstir

The makers of this hands-on kids cooking subscription box is giving away 5,000 FREE kits for families learning from home. Order your free Kidstir kit today to make sure to grab one while supplies last!

Taste Buds Kitchen At-Home Cooking Club

Taste Buds Kitchen is offering a free weekly program to watch cooking demos, download recipes and other cool culinary games. Join the Cooking Club list and make sure you catch the first one airing this Thursday, March 19 at 2:00 p.m. ET. Bonus: For every chef who joins the online cooking club, Taste Buds Kitchen will donate $1 to No Kid Hungry to help millions of children get healthy meals.

PBS Kids’ Chef Leo’s Crazy Kitchen

The PBS Kids Games App is the only one we use in our home and it’s the best! There are hundreds of fun and enriching games including the Chef Leo’s Crazy Kitchen game under “Let’s Go Luna!” which challenges your little player to follow a simple recipe or create their own. The game also includes pop-up messages about the ingredients which focus on dishes from around the world. You can play Chef Leo’s Crazy Kitchen from your computer or download the App to your tablet or phone.

Raddish Cooking Camp Skill Challenge

Download their beautiful Skill Booklet for eight kitchen lessons that will help your little ones build their culinary foundation with new cooking techniques and recipe creation. Plus, sign-up to get your hands on their free Swedish Eats Cooking Kit once it’s stocked again.

“The Grate Adventure” Kitchen Academy Kit by Little Sous

This monthly cooking club for kids is offering one of their most popular Kitchen Academy Kits in digital form for free! The kit boasts 6-8 hours of activities and learning centered around cheese and varieties around the world (one of my favorite food groups – er – foods!)

Will you be spending extra time in the kitchen cooking and baking with your kids in the near future? Let me know if you take advantage of these free activities or any others.

Wishing you all good health

XOXO,

Emily
