New York Fashion Week FOMO? Feel Like a NYC It Girl With This One Accessory

September 13, 2016

Anyone else feeling like they’re missing the action while New York Fashion Week is going on? If you’re like me, your social media accounts are brimming with NYFW updates from runway snaps and Spring 2017 trend predictions to It Girl attendee daily style photos. If your FOMO is starting to set in (guilty!), here’s the one accessory – the square neck scarf –  to add to your looks this week for a little oh la la as you hit the catwalk sidewalk. img_1469   The neck scarf is one of my go-to accessories (read more about it here) I wear on a daily basis. Besides wearing it around your neck, it makes the perfect headband or handbag accessory. For as little as $5, adding a square neck scarf to your closet or enhancing your current collection with some fall florals or rich jewel-tone hues is the chicest (and cheapest) way to vamp up your fall look. Here are my top must-haves on my shopping radar:

You don’t need to be attending NYFW to feel like an It Girl! Which neck scarf style will you be trying this season?

Rome Street Style Trends & How To Copy Them This Fall!

September 9, 2016

IMG_0769

There are endless reasons why I love the city of Rome and its people. The aesthetics of the city are reason enough to take your breath away. I especially love the juxtaposition of its ancient ruins and cobblestone streets as a backdrop to the effortless modern street style of the women who live there.

We spent four days in Rome on our recent anniversary trip and I couldn’t resist taking note of the latest style trends worn by Italian women so that I can hopelessly try to emulate them in my little corner of the world.

And you can, too. Here are five current street style trends from Rome plus my top shopping picks (from investment to affordable) to incorporate these looks into your fall wardrobe.

Finger Flare
Modern yet elegant, I think the double bar finger ring is a subtle statement piece and best accompanied by a simple single band on the other hand.

Metallica
Silver, gold, rose gold and bronze hues were everywhere from footwear to handbags and accessories. Whether you want to invest in a high-end piece (hello, pretty Fendi) or play around with a less expensive version, metallic finishes are the perfect way to make a look bellisima.

Getting Wordy
Roman women are wearing their hearts on their sleeves beyond graphic tees to dresses and jackets. Don’t think of these pieces as an extension of athlesure wear, but as a statement piece to an overall polished look.

Unexpected Converse
Everywhere I looked, women were rocking a fresh pair of Converse with pretty feminine skirts and dresses as well as a breezy cropped pant. These kicks give a little edge to a high-fashion look.

Culotte Cool
The cropped and wide leg culotte pant were made for riding your scooter through Ancient Rome or bopping around from piazza to piazza all day. They give any outfit a high-fashion edge even when it’s a simple t-shirt and jeans. Booties will be the perfect pairing for cool fall days, too.

Ok, bellas. These are the five street style trends from Rome that are inspiring my wardrobe enhancements this season. Which will you be adding to your closet??

Ciao, ciao! <3

Hi, (blog) World. Introducing…me!

August 30, 2016

IMG_2005

Bonjour, bijou! This is it. The little kick-off to my blogging journey. Honestly, I’ve been dreaming up this little blog baby on and off for many years, but those who have followed me on Instagram over the last year are truly responsible for inspiring me to just go for it. I’m not gonna lie. It’s a bit of an intimidating blogging world out there with so many truly creative people expressing unique and beautiful words, ideas and photos every day. Am I right?! So, here’s what I have promised myself and will offer to you as a reader: I promise to be true to my personality and who I am at my core, and in the end, I hope my thoughts pique your interest just enough for you to continue to tune in as I serve up my take on style, from fashion and beauty to home décor and super cute kids’ stuff. Here’s why I can passionately and confidently speak to these topics. Yours truly loves to shop. Window shopping, online shopping, watching someone else shop…I don’t discriminate. That said, I rarely pay full price for anything so I’ll be sharing my go-to sales and shopping tips, as well as thrifting finds (both here and abroad for all you wanderlust’s), subscription box reviews and some glam giveaways sprinkled in.

So in a nutshell, that’s an idea of what you can expect to read on The Style Du Jour. And, for those of you just stumbling across this blog, here’s a little bit more about me and what influences my personal take on style today.

Day Job: I’m a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). Translation = I was a science nerd in college AND (most importantly) I LOVE FOOD. For eight years I worked in PR helping food companies, but for the last year I’ve focused on my two most important clients full-time, Teddy (3) and Sloane (1).

How I Describe My Style: Casual-Chic, Minimal, European-Flare.

Current Fashion Trend Obsession: High-waisted culotte fringe jeans. Wow. That kind of sounds like a lot going on in one pair of pants, but I predict I’ll be living in these pants this fall.

Recent Thrifting Treasure: Pierre Balmain silk scarf. Picked it up at a vintage shop in Florence while on vacation with my hubby. I have a growing collection of neck scarfs (inherited and purchased) which have become my go-to accessory to quickly give some polish to a simple t-shirt with jeans, hide a bad hair day or accessorize a handbag. You can never have enough!

On-Repeat: My navy bandana from the Dollar Store. It’s been my favorite spring and summer accessory. I love how the simple bandana has been elevated to a glam statement piece this season.

Style Inspiration: My mom. 🙂 She’s got the eye and she knows how to pull it all together, popped collar and all.

That’s all for now. Thanks so much for reading! ‘Til next time!
